Volunteer Workshop Schedule – Fall 2010

All workshops are from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Rowe Visitor Center except where indicated. These workshops are open to all current or prospective CNC volunteers. Certification workshops are intended for school group educators, but all volunteers are welcome to participate. Please bring a bag lunch and dress for the outdoors as most workshops are hosted indoors but involve outdoor exploration. View the Fall 2010 Workshop Schedule.

Opportunities to Educate:

Little Adventurers
9:30-11:30 a.m.
Tuesdays Sept. 7-Nov. 9 or Thursdays Sept. 9-Nov. 11

Join our early chilhood educator, Monica Torgesen, for a season of fun and adventure with children ages 3-5. Volunteers play an incredibly important role in making the indoor and outdoor classroom experience especially great! Classes meet once a week for 10 weeks.

Children's Saturday Programs
9:30-11:30 a.m.
Sept. 18, Oct. 9, Nov. 13, Dec. 11

Fall is here and that means Saturday enrichment programs are beginning. This is a four class series on one Saturday morning per month. Classes are led by CNC education staff and volunteers help the program run smoothly by engaging kids in each week's theme. Assist with Earthhuggers (ages 3-4), Awareness (ages 5-6) or Discovery (ages 7-9).

New School Group Leader Orientation
Sept. 8 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

CNC is gearing up for another great year of school group field trips. We need YOUR help! If you think you might enjoy sharing nature with students, come to our New School Group Leader Orientation to find out what happens during a typical field trip and what type of training and resources are available to you as a guide.

CNC Fall Happenings!

Preparing for Night
Volunteer on: Friday, Sept. 10 from 6-10 p.m.

This is a CNC favorite event! We need lots of help to make it another successful year. Please consider joining us by being a station assistant at various stops along the trail, and help with crafts, games or even in the Maze of Darkness!

Bird Seed Sale
Volunteer on: Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 16-Nov. 7

Spend a fall morning or afternoon offering a helping hand or a friendly smile at the annual Bird Seed Sale!

Weekend Quilt Show
Volunteer on: Oct. 22-24

Assist in the reception for the Contemporary Quilt and Fiber Artists Weekend Quilt Show or assist by donating some home-baked cookies! Saturday and Sunday, enjoy teh art and sell raffle tickets or help greet and assist visitors to the show.

Jim DowneyJim Downey (left) became a CNC volunteer in 1990 after retiring from a 30-year teaching career.  Today, Jim is one of the leaders of CNC's Volunteer Land Steward Program, working hard in all seasons to remove invasive species from CNC lands.
