I’ll never forget the first time I saw dozens of native bees, wasps, and butterflies buzzing around a clump of native mountain mint in my backyard; it was pure magic! I’m a native-plant zealot, so I wholeheartedly financially support organizations like Cincinnati Nature Center that share my enthusiasm.
Years ago, I noticed Cincinnati Nature Center actively promoting the importance of planting native, and I felt compelled to throw some additional support their way. As I learned more about their work, my inspiration grew. I am excited by the Nature Center managing a native plant nursery and hosting plant sales, restoring native habitats on their property, and educating the public through their conservation department about creating ecosystems where pollinators can thrive. The intricate, wondrous connection between native plants, insects, and indigenous wildlife is a marvel to behold, and making a difference is easier than you might think, no matter the size of your backyard.
The people drawn to Cincinnati Nature Center are already inclined toward native plant advocacy, even if they don’t realize it yet. A love of nature and wild spaces, coupled with an interest in conserving birds and native wildlife, naturally leads to an understanding that not all “habitat” is created equally. Each of us can play a role as native habitat stewards, whether we’re working with a few pots on a patio or tending two acres of land.
